Thanks and Cake from Scratch

This extended weekend was amazing!

Thursday, I helped my mom cook a feast, which was amazing. We had so many laughs while we worked, and when I got there, she was in the middle of an organization project. She was changing out pictures in frames and she had found an album her mom put together of her. The pictures of her at a young age and me at a young age are frighteningly similar. Time at my parents was precious. The love, the challenge to learn more, and the constant laughter are home to me and I love it.

Friday, mom and I went shopping (at 7am – not too early). We had the traditional donut for breakfast and hot pretzel for a snack. We found some great deals on things, and I am almost done with my shopping! I got our decorations out at the apartment. I love Christmas!! I got to see a high school friend and her family and celebrate a milestone in that family’s life on Friday night. After that, Vestavia Hills High School beat Hoover High. GO REBELS! I went to a private school in Birminigham, but most of my friends went to Vestavia!

Saturday – the joy of the holiday for me – catch up time! I wrapped presents, I cleaned house, and organized stuff I would need for the trip Scott and I leave for in less than a week.

Sunday. I have to tell this before Scott does. The family teasing will begin, I am sure. I decided to make cupcakes, but I wanted to try it from scratch. You see, I did this several years ago, about 15 to be exact, and the cake turned out aweful. It was not edible, even to wildlife. I was a little nervous. I wanted to overcome the past. It didn’t happen. I followed the directions carefully, and double checked myself so I could overcome my past. I made a white cake. And it wasn’t sweet at all. The frosting I made was great. The white cake was almost tasteless. Scott ate two and our dog, Lilly at some crumbs, so I made it a step up from last time, but no where near overcoming the past. I went back, and found I had followed the recipe. Next time, I will try yellow cake instead.

I can believe you went shopping on Black Friday. That is crazy talk! I’m glad that your cooking skills are becoming greater. Soon you will be able to make triple-layer white cake with delicate pink frosting roses for Scott after he’d had a long day at work ^_^. I’m sure Lily will appreciate that too.

Well, if at first you don’t succeed……. Cakes can only get better! Glad for the fun we had on Thursday and Friday! Girls rule at Mille Borne! Make sure our scores make it into AK’s scrapbook!

Let’s make more fun!
